The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the judgment of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, which affirmed the legality of its National Convention held in the Oyo State capital.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the judgment, delivered by Honourable Justice Ladiran Akintola, granted all the reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

The court declared the National Convention conducted in Ibadan as proper and lawful and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and give full effect to all decisions and outcomes reached at the convention.

According to the statement, the suit was filed by Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, on behalf of his client, Adelabi, described as a card-carrying member of the party.

The legal action was instituted to protect his constitutional right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. Among the reliefs sought were orders compelling the PDP to conduct its elections as publicly advertised and directing INEC to honour the outcomes of the convention.

The party noted that the court had earlier granted orders permitting the convention to proceed, first on November 3, 2025, and subsequently renewed on November 14, 2025.

These orders formed the legal basis for the convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025. The latest judgment, the party said, affirms and gives final effect to those earlier orders.

“The party welcomes this judgment as a vindication of both fact and law,” the statement said.

“It reaffirms the obvious fact that the Ibadan convention was conducted properly, transparently, and in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The PDP also commended the court for what it described as its courage and fidelity to justice, adding that the ruling strengthens confidence in the judiciary.

“We reaffirm our faith in the Nigerian judiciary as an independent arbiter and the last hope of the ordinary citizen,” the statement added.

The party further reiterated its commitment to pursuing all legitimate legal avenues to ensure justice is upheld, expressing confidence that appellate courts would continue to uphold the law without fear or favour, affection or ill will.
