The Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Balarabe Abdullahi, has advised the House Standing Committees against compromising while carrying out oversight functions to Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs)in the State.

The Speaker advised on the House proceedings today in Lafia.

This, he said, was in the best interest of the State and for speedy development to thrive.

The Speaker urged the lawmakers to take the exercise with all seriousness it deserves.

” The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowered the House to embark on Oversight Functions to check the activities of MDAs.

” Since it is a constitutional responsibility, we must carry out this responsibility, exercise with all sense of seriousness.

” This is to know the performances of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies ( MDAs).

” We appropriated funds to MDAs and we need to know how such funds are expended for the benefit of our people

” I give you two weeks for the oversight functions to commence today,” he said.

Balarabe Abdullahi said that the oversight function was not to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that the right things are done for the overall development of the state.

He explained that the exercise is supposed to be a quarterly one but due to lineup activities before the end of the year which ranged from party conventions and primaries it could not hold.

” In the process of the oversight function, they might be side talk, hearsay, but do your job as expected and as enshrined in the constitution,” he added.

The Speaker urged the management and staff of MDAs to give their necessary support and cooperation to the various House Standing Committees to enable them to succeed.

The House Leader Hon. Umar Tanko Tunga moved a motion for the House to proceed on Two weeks’ oversight functions which were seconded by the Minority Leader Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala.
