Nasarawa Police arrest 17 Political thugs, recovers Fire arms

In the Command’s quest to conduct a peaceful election in Nasarawa State, the State Police Command has arrested 17 political thugs, recovered 13 firearms and 22 pieces of ammunition during the just concluded general elections in the state.

The state Police Public Relation Officer, DSP, Ramhan Nansel, stated this during a press briefing in Lafia, Nasarawa state capital.

He said the Commissioner of Police enforced the order of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba which conforms with the Electoral Act, 2022 that banned the activities of quasi-security organizations from providing security during elections and warned political thugs that may want to truncate the electoral process in the State to desist from such act or face the law if caught.

According to the PRO, “the Command, in synergy with sister security agencies in the state will do everything within its operational guidelines to deal ruthlessly and subdue any act that is capable of rupturing the peace enjoyed in the State.

“Following the existing synergy, on 17/03/2023 the eve of the election, military operatives patrolling along Umaisha, Toto LGA intercepted a Toyota pickup vehicle and a Toyota Siena bus loaded with persons suspected to be political thugs”.

“A thorough search was conducted on them where two English pump action guns, nine locally fabricated guns, twenty live cartridges, twenty-four handsets of different brands, two unregistered vehicles, fifteen pairs of desert booths, a bag containing a Belt, Bulletproof jackets” were found.

The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

He further said that the Command wishes to state that it will not be beaten by the antics of criminals as it will continue to modulate its enormous security measures to be several miles ahead of the men of the underworld.
