Over five hundred members of various political parties have decamped to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state, North-Central Nigeria.
Giving reasons for their action, one of the decampees, Badamasi Usman, said it was as a result of the inability of the government to come to their rescue and solve their problems:
“We are people of Nasarawa state, yet no presence of government in our community.
“We have never experienced or witnessed the presence of any gubernatorial candidate that visits to ask for our problems and support in this area.
“On this premise, we are assuring you of our support because you’re the only person that will have us in mind.”
“As you come to seek our support, we believe you will bring development to our community if we elect you.
“For what you’re doing God is with you, and we are with you too,” Usman added.
Responding, the NNPP gubernatorial candidate, Abdullahi Maidoya, expressed worry over the dilapidated road linking Kolo to Katagba and Shege, among others.
“Infrastructural development is key for any community in the state.
“The communities are in dire need of government presenc. They lack a lot of social amenities: no primary health care, road, electricity, and potable drinking water; and their schools are also dilapidated,” said Maidoya.
He, however, pledged to place a premium on road construction, the provision of potable water, and education, among other critical sectors to address the plight of the vulnerable communities.
On his visit to the paramount Ruler of Toto for a royal blessing, the Ohinoyi Ogye, Alh. Muhammad Azaki, charged the politician with an issue-based campaign.
