NGX closes Monday bullish with 0.03% gain

The Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX, began this week’s equities trading activities with mixed sentiments however, with a bullish tilt.
Thus, the local bourse traded marginally higher on Monday as the benchmark index closed 3bps or 0.03% higher.
Specifically, the All-Share Index upped 16.67 basis points or 0.03% to settle at 52,231.29 basis points on Monday from Friday’s 52,214.62 basis points. While the market capitalization increased by ₦9bn or 0.03% from ₦28,431 trillion Naira to close today at ₦28,440 trillion Naira.
The day’s performance was triggered by bargain-hunting in TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATION PLC (+9.65%), OANDO PLC (+9.9%), ZENITH BANK PLC (+0.62%), ACCESS HOLDINGS PLC (+1.01%) and LAFARGE AFRICA PLC(+0.41%) which offset declines in GUARANTY TRUST HOLDING COMPANY PLC(-0.62%), STANBIC IBTC HOLDINGS PLC(-0.27%), and FBN HOLDINGS PLC(-0.41%).
Analysis of today’s market activities showed that a total of 626.39 million units of shares valued at ₦5.60bn were exchanged in 6,033 deals, where TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATION PLC (+9.65%) was the most traded stock by volume at 190.85 million units of shares traded, while ACCESS HOLDINGS PLC (+1.01%) led the value chart in deals worth ₦1.25bn.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive, with 24 advancing issues outnumbering19 declining ones.
Top on the gainers list is OANDO PLC with an opening selling price of ₦5.55k per share and a closing price of ₦6.10k per share, gaining 0.55k or 9.91%. Next is NCR (NIGERIA) PLC which began today’s market transactions at ₦2.56k per share to close at ₦2.81k per share, gained 0.25k or 9.77%. While TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATION PLC upped from ₦2.59k per share to ₦2.84k per share, advancing by 0.25k or 9.65%.

 

On the flip side is CWG PLC leading the laggard’s table with a fall from ₦2.07k per share to ₦1.87k per share, losing 0.20k or 9.66%. Followed by NEM INSURANCE PLC which declined from ₦4.55k per share to ₦4.12k per share by 0.43k or 9.45%. And ROYAL EXCHANGE PLC fell from 0.54k per share to 0.50k per share by 0.04k or 7.41%.

 

Analysing by sectors, the Banking, Consumer Goods, Industrial Goods, and Oil & Gas indices closed flat, while the Insurance (-1.4%) index declined.
