Nigeria has strengthened its internal security architecture with the commissioning of more than 1,000 newly trained Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) from the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, following the completion of a rigorous five-year academic and field training programme.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while addressing the graduating cadets during the passing-out parade in Kano, reminded the new officers that their entry into the Nigeria Police Force carries a solemn responsibility to safeguard the nation and uphold justice.

“As you embark on this noble journey, remember that you are not just enforcers of the law; you are guardians of our collective security and well-being,” the President said.“Your role is pivotal in maintaining peace, stability, and trust in our communities.”

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu urged the officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights, emphasising that the nation expects them to serve selflessly and with unwavering dedication.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to equipping security institutions with modern resources, training, and technology to tackle emerging security threats across the country. He added that the government is also addressing the root causes of insecurity by promoting economic development, social cohesion, and national unity.

Tinubu extended appreciation to the families of the graduating cadets, acknowledging their sacrifices and support throughout the officers’ training journey.

Academy Leadership

Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero, noted that all graduating cadets were awarded bachelor’s degrees across various disciplines, reflecting the academy’s transformation into a degree-awarding institution of global standards.

He acknowledged the support of key stakeholders, including the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd). He said their collaborative efforts have strengthened the academy’s capacity to deliver world-class policing education.

Tracing the institution’s growth since its establishment in 1998, Atayero said the academy has produced some of the finest officers currently serving in Nigeria and abroad. He added that the academy is set to commence postgraduate programmes to further enhance professional development within the Nigeria Police Force.

“To the graduating cadets of Regular Course 7, you have worked hard to reach this milestone,” he said.“You are now guardians of peace, protectors of the innocent, and defenders of justice.”

Awards and Recognitions

Several cadets received awards for outstanding academic and professional performance during the programme, marking the end of a historic commissioning that underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to reform and modernise the Nigeria Police Force.
