President Bola Tinubu has assured the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, of the Federal Government’s continued support following his re-election as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group (AMSG), a continental forum of ministers overseeing mining and solid minerals.

In a congratulatory message issued on Monday by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President described Alake’s re-election as a clear vote of confidence in his leadership, commitment, and strategic advocacy for Africa’s minerals sector.

He noted that the renewed mandate reflects the trust of the Minister’s counterparts across the continent in Alake’s capacity to strengthen institutional frameworks and promote transparency, sustainability, and inclusiveness in the minerals sector.

President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s backing as Alake leads the AMSG to deepen cooperation among African nations, strengthen collaboration in the minerals sector, and advance Africa’s collective interests in the global mining and critical minerals value chain.

The President further noted that under Alake’s chairmanship, the group has provided a united platform for African countries to enhance collaboration, protect mineral resources, and position the continent as a key player in the global energy transition and critical minerals value chain.

President Tinubu commended the Minister for aligning the objectives of the AMSG with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly efforts to unlock the country’s solid minerals potential, attract sustainable investments, create jobs, and ensure that mineral wealth delivers tangible socio-economic benefits for Africans.

Alake was re-elected at the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the AMSG, held on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He was first elected to the position in 2024. The AMSG is focused on maximising the benefits of Africa’s vast mineral resources for the continent.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Henry Alake, was re-elected Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group at the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the group, held on the sidelines of the same conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr Alake was first unanimously elected as the pioneer Chairman of the AMSG in 2024 on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF).
