Minister tasks new NSDC boss on self-sufficiency in sugar production

Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, H.E. Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo, has urged the newly appointed Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Mr Zach Adedeji, to work towards improving the sugar sector of the country’s economy, particularly in ensuring that Nigeria attains self-sufficiency in sugar production.

 

“The Federal Government relies on you to work assiduously towards the realization of the country’s self-sufficiency in sugar production.

 

“You are, therefore, expected to discharge your duties in accordance with the rules and regulations as laid down in the Act establishing the council and other extant rules,”  the Minister said while speaking at the inauguration.

 

He urged him to create an atmosphere of a good working relationship with his staff, board and management to ensure a successful execution of his mandate.

 

The newly appointed Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Mr Zach Adedeji expressed his appreciation to the government for the honour to serve as the Executive Secretary of the NSDC:

 

“I also like to express my appreciation to the Honourable Minister; Honourable Minister of State; the Permanent Secretary; the Director, Industrial Development Department and the members of FMITI Technical team for your support towards the implementation of some strategic initiatives and engagements that has resulted in the growth recorded in the Sugar Council, specifically towards the attainment of our self-sufficiency targets of the economy.

 

“Our fundamental objective is to continue to work with the relevant public MDAs to provide the desired support and interventions to achieve the ultimate target of 1.8Mm tonnes and with the private sector operators to achieve the goals we have collectively agreed.

 

“Also, we will continue to welcome the support of our principals towards the vision of attaining sugar self-sufficiency.”
