Nasarawa United began their Nigeria National League opening match at the Lafia Township Stadium with a resounding 1-0 victory.

The goal was scored 9 minutes into the start of the game by Aminu Abubakar, Jersey number 13, to beat Zamfara United giving the hosting club an advantage over the visiting team as they hope to return to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.

In a post-match interview with journalists, the Technical Adviser of Nasarawa Utd FC was happy to win his first league match in the club.

He expressed optimism that the team would do well in their subsequent matches to return to the Nigeria premier league.

Reacting after the match, the Zamfara United FC’s coach, Alhassan Mohammed, said his boys played well, and he was impressed with their performance but, unfortunately, lost.

He added that they would focus on winning their match because their target is to return to NPFL.

The match was witnessed by football lovers including Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, and Commissioners among others.

Speaking after the match, the Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude to the state-owned team for making them proud in their first match.

“With this, I’m optimistic that the Solid Miners are going back to the Premier League”.

Sule further said the government of the state would continue to invest in sports because it’s youth development which creates so much opportunity for so many young people.

“Sport brings about unity of the people, we so much believe that the state has so many young talented people, and we would continue to promote and invest in sports not just football but all kinds of sports so that our youth would continue to excel”.
