The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Saturday hosted its 2025 Batch A Stream II Cultural Carnival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The event brought together ten platoons of Corps members, each representing Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry, in a vibrant celebration of dance, cuisine, history, marriage traditions, and fashion.

In her keynote address, the NYSC State Coordinator for Anambra, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua described the carnival as “no ordinary event,” but rather “a bold, living testament to the heartbeat of our nation.” She emphasised the role of the event in fostering unity, saying, “Our differences are not walls to divide us but bridges to connect us. In every step of your dance, every fabric of your attire, every flavor of your food, and every story you tell, we see the strength of a Nigeria that thrives because of its diversity.”

National unity

Mrs. Ojisua saluted the passion and creativity of the participating Corps members, applauding them as torchbearers of national unity.

She also extended her gratitude to the Anambra State Government and the traditional rulers of the host communities, Igwe Dr. Peter Nwokike Anugwu, Eze-Ukwu of Mbaukwu, and Igwe Engr. Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu (JP), Eze-Udo II of Umuawulu, for their warm reception and guidance.

Calling on all present to fully immerse themselves in the cultural symphony, Mrs. Ojisua urged that the spirit of unity celebrated at the carnival should resonate beyond the camp, encouraging all to “build a Nigeria where every voice is heard, every culture is cherished, and every heart beats as one.”

Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agba Mba, Engr. Martin Agbili reinforced the importance of the event as a showcase of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and unity.

Each tribe, language, and tradition represented here adds a unique thread to the fabric of our great nation,” he said, highlighting the role of the NYSC in promoting national integration.

Agbili praised Anambra State’s reputation as a beacon of cultural pride and progress, noting the government’s commitment under Governor Prof. Charles Soludo, to youth empowerment and fostering unity. He described the carnival as “proof that despite our different backgrounds, we can come together in mutual respect and appreciation.”

He encouraged Corps members to view the event not only as a cultural celebration but also as an opportunity to harness the discipline and knowledge gained during their service year to contribute to Nigeria’s development.

The carnival was marked by colorful displays, energetic performances, and heartfelt exchanges, embodying the spirit of collaboration and harmony. Organizers and participants alike expressed optimism that such events continue to strengthen Nigeria’s social fabric and inspire a generation united in diversity.
