Osun state launches ‘Adire revolution’
Wearing of Adire on Thurdays by public servants compulsory
The Osun state government has launched an Adire revolution to promote patronage of local fabrics.
To this end, it has vowed to embark on mass production, promotion and marketing of Adire Osun.
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola stated this at the International Fashion Week held in Osogbo the state capital.
Oyetola who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, reiterated the Administration’s commitment to promoting and projecting Osun culture to the world in a way that will draw attention and attract revenue to the State.
He stressed that the State under his watch would continue to support the cause of employing indigenous resources to grow her revenue base.
“I wish to recall that at the inauguration of this Administration under my leadership, I did state that the economy of our State should be repositioned and that Economic Summit would be organised to among other initiatives, develop strategies that would drive meaningful youth employment, enhance food security and agricultural development, activate mining prospects and boost tourism potential of the State,” he said.
Adire Day
To underscore the seriousness of promoting indigenous fashion, Oyetola said henceforth every Thursday would be observed as ‘Adire Osun Day.’
He therefore directed all public and civil servants to wear Adire fabric to their respective offices on Thursdays.
Oyetola insisted that this initiative would drive cultural repositioning, renaissance and economic recovery in line with the administration’s Development Agenda.
The International Fashion Week attracted about 120 trainees from across the Nigerian federation.
