Political Appointees in Kano to Resign Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Kano State Government has directed all political office holders intending to contest in the forthcoming 2027 general elections to resign from their positions on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive, issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, is in compliance with the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which regulates the participation of public officers in partisan political activities.

According to the statement, “the move is aimed at ensuring strict adherence to the legal framework governing public service while upholding the principles of neutrality, accountability, and integrity within government institutions.

“All Political Office Holders who wish to contest in the forthcoming elections are hereby required to resign their appointments.”

The government further urged all affected officials to comply with the directive within the stipulated deadline, noting that the measure is necessary to maintain discipline and transparency in the public service.

It said; “The circular has also been circulated widely to ensure that all concerned officers are duly informed.”
