The visit comes barely a week after President Wadagni assumed office following his victory in Benin Republic’s April 12 presidential election.

Diplomatic and Bilateral Relations

President Tinubu had delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent Nigeria at the inauguration ceremony held in Cotonou, reaffirming the strong diplomatic and bilateral relations between the two countries.

Nigeria and Benin Republic share deep historical, cultural and economic ties and have continued to collaborate on regional security, trade, economic integration and other initiatives aimed at advancing stability and development within the West African sub-region.
