Queen Elizabeth II: Nigeria signs condolence register (VIDEO)

The Nigerian Government has signed a condolence register to mourn the death if Queen Elizabeth II.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha signed the register on behalf of the Federal Government at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing.

Addressing journalists after Performing the exercise, the SGF described the late Queen as an important personality in the history of Nigeria, noting that the traditional rendition that heralded the accession of the new King was a depiction of the rich British Tradition.

 

“The Queen herself had served several purposes for Nigeria. Don’t forget She was the Head of Common Wealth which we belong and not only that, she was the Head of States for three years at the time of independence in 1960 until 1st of October 1963, when we became a Republic, that was when she ceased to become our Head of States.

“We’ve had very close time with the Queen. She visited twice, first was barely upon ascension into office in 1953,  she spent about 20days in Nigeria visiting towns and  cities. And the second one was in 2003 when Obasanjo was President.”

Boss Mustapha described the late Queen as an elegant and gracious monarch.

According to him, 90% of Nigerians do not know any other Monarchy in England aside the Queen.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing commended Nigeria for the show of love and concern for her country.

She said the Queen was the foundation of Nigeria’s relationship with England adding that she followed Nigeria with great interest.

Laing hoped that with the strong ties and commitment president Muhammadu Buhari shares with the new King of England, Britain would continue to deepen her collaboration with Nigeria.
