The Nigerian Senate has adopted a resolution categorising kidnapping as a form of terrorism and calling for amendments to the Terrorism Act to ensure the strictest punishment is applied.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, the lawmakers agreed that any individual convicted of kidnapping should automatically face the death penalty once the law is revised.

“The resolution mandates that, upon conviction for kidnapping, the death penalty must be enforced,” the Senate stated.

The Lawmakers emphasised that this move is aimed at curbing the menace and sending a strong warning to criminals.
