The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, has emphasized that the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, is an important body and pivotal pillar of journalism in Nigeria .He also commended the Association for being at the forefront of national unity.
Mr Adeoye made the commendation while receiving the newly elected executives of the Association in Anambra State at the Command Headquarters, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
While noting that SWAN has done a noble service to the country for decades, Mr Adeoye called on the new executive to keep the flag flying and update Nigerians with quality sporting activities.
The Commissioner of Police noted that the command will partner the Anambra State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in all its proposed sporting activities during their week, coming up in December.
He also hinted that plans were on by his leadership, to collaborate with the sports journalists in organising a sporting games for all the security agencies in the area which will cement togetherness among officers and men of the command.
Earlier, the Chairman of SWAN Anambra state Chapter, Mr Chimezie Anaso had extolled the pivotal and traditional role the Police play in the security component of the society and more specifically the way the Police Command in Anambra has helped to provide an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state.
According to Anaso, sports can only take place under a peaceful and tranquil environment, so, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Anambra Chapter is willing and ready to partner with the command to evolve that.
Ace Sports presenter Ikem Asika and veteran sports writers, Emma Ndukuba and Sab Osuji accompanied the new SWAN Executive on the visit.
