President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN has inaugurated a six-man team to steer the affairs of the federation in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA zone for the next two years.
Mr. Nkereuwem Onung who described the FCTA Zonal Council as strategic, said the Zonal Council would help to strengthen the existing relationship between FTAN and the Government.
He gave assurance of a solid relationship between FTAN and the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The President of the association appealed to the new Executives to maintain a good relationship with other members of the association.
Onung urged the FCTA executives to take an urgent step to meet with the FCTA and ensure that FTAN pet project NTIFE was on course.
Tourism development in Nigeria
The President said the Federation would meet with the Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Muhammed to discuss Tourism development in Nigeria and the issue of palliatives to members in the travel and hospitality industry.
On hosting of the World Tourism Organisation, UNWTO next year, the President said there was need for the Federal Government to meet with the private sector to discuss various issues including expectations of Nigeria as the hosting country.
He said it was the only way the conference was going to have positive impacts on tourism in the country.
“Tourism is the lowest hanging fruit for the Nigeria economy today. Oil has gone. There is nothing we don’t have in terms of tourism assets in our country,” he said.
The President also advised the team to collaborate, so as to strengthen the structure that FTAN has already put in place for the benefit of both the Federation and Nigeria tourism sector.
