As Nigeria prepares to mark Democracy Day, notable national figures including Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, are set to headline The Platform, an annual national discourse convened by Pastor Poju Oyemade of The Covenant Nation.
Scheduled for Thursday in Lagos, the forum will explore the theme “Rebuilding the Nation” and feature a distinguished lineup of speakers.
Among them are former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN); former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega; and Aminah Gurib-Fakim, the first female President of Mauritius.
In a statement released by the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Christian Aburime, emphasised the timeliness of the governor’s participation, describing him as a leading voice in the national dialogue on reform and development.
“As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day amid recurring socio-economic and governance challenges, citizens are yearning for more than perfunctory speeches. They want actionable ideas, credible solutions, and inspiring leadership,” Aburime said.
He described Governor Soludo as “a revered visionary, an unrelenting optimist, and a nationally respected thought leader whose voice continues to resonate across regional and ideological divides.”
As former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and internationally acclaimed economist, Soludo is expected to offer insights grounded in experience and backed by economic expertise.
According to Aburime, “Soludo’s track record goes beyond rhetoric. His tenure in Anambra is defined by bold reforms and a clear roadmap to transform the state into a livable, smart megacity.”
Aburime stated that the governor’s address at The Platform would be “a critical contribution at a pivotal moment for Nigeria,” particularly as the nation faces mounting economic pressures and growing calls for structural reform.
Organised annually to coincide with Nigeria’s Democracy Day, The Platform is widely regarded as a non-partisan space for thought leadership, attracting stakeholders from politics, business, academia, and civil society to interrogate Nigeria’s developmental challenges and chart a course forward.
