The much-anticipated ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup clash between Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens and Samoa in Sarawak, was abandoned before the toss due to an unplayable wet outfield.

Both teams, eager to make their ICC World Cup debuts, will have to wait a little longer to showcase their talents on the global stage.

Reflecting on the unfortunate events, Head Coach of the Nigerian team, Sarah Bakhita, expressed her perspective with optimism.

“The game is not the outcome we anticipated. However, we control the controllable,” Bakhita said. “We look forward to the next match. We are playing cricket, not a certain team.”

“Moving on to the next game, we go hard, knowing what is at stake. The goal is to qualify for the semifinal first, ensuring we give our best.”

Captain Lucky Piety echoed the sentiment of positivity, emphasizing the significance of securing a point from the abandoned match.

“A point is a point and is taken as huge progress,” she remarked.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens will focus on their next challenge, a high-stakes encounter against New Zealand on Monday, January 20th, at 3:30 AM (WAT).

With their sights set on a semifinal spot, the team is poised to deliver a determined performance, carrying the hopes of Nigeria with them.
