U.S Vice President to attend Abe’s state funeral

U.S Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to attend Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s state funeral on September 27.

The White House is intent on honoring Abe’s achievements and highlighting the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance.

It would be Harris’ first visit to Japan in her current capacity. She is expected to meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Reports say former President Barack Obama is also set to attend the funeral, as are French President Emmanuel Macron and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Tokyo will announce the list of attendees just before the event.
