UNIJOS to host best NUGA Games – Vice Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Prof. Tanko Ishaya, has said that the institution will host one of the best editions of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition when it hosts the games in 2024.

Tanko told Journalists shortly after arriving at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, where he was part of a powerful delegation from the University led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Attahiru Jega to attend the just concluded 26th edition of the Games.

Professor Tanko stressed that being the first time the institution is hosting the Games since its establishment, UNIJOS is fully prepared to ensure that everything is put in place to make the exercise memorable and successful.

He believes the exercise will place UNIJOS on the global map and will create an opportunity to improve the institution’s sporting and infrastructural facilities, which he promised, will be the best in the history of the games.

A statement by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, Abdullahi Abdullahi, said that the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Attahiru Jega, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong.

He also appreciated members of the University Management, the Sports Committee and student-athletes for their commitment towards securing the hosting rights and pledged that the University will justify the confidence reposed in it.

Also speaking, Plateau State Governor, Lalong, who was represented at the 26th NUGA Games in Lagos by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Victor Lapang, assured of the State Government’s unwavering support to assist the University to set all machinery in motion for the successful hosting of the event.

Lapang explained that hosting the NUGA Games on the Plateau would create a platform for the state to showcase its renowned qualities of peace, hospitality and scenic beauty, while building confidence among Nigerians and the international community that peace has returned to the State.

While congratulating the University of Port Harcourt for emerging tops at the just-concluded Games in Lagos, he equally congratulated the University of Jos for winning the hosting righst, which was keenly contested.
