Organisers of the ValueJet Cup, a prestigious pre-season football tournament designed to help prepare Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs for continental engagements and domestic league season have budgeted N2 million for the winners.
Eight (8) NPFL clubs are expected to participate in the second edition of the tournament, scheduled to hold between August 4th – 10th, 2023, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria.
The participants are the country’s representatives in the CAF Champions League Enyimba International FC and Remo Stars FC, as well as and CAF Confederation Cup representatives Rivers United and Insurance FC.
The Chairman of the ValueJet Cup, Otunba Tade Azeez, said there would be a 100% increment in the revenue share for the participating clubs.
“We have increased the pool of revenue for the participating clubs; there will be 100 per cent increment in the appearance and logistics fee,” Azeez said. “Each participating club will earn N500,000, while the winner will take home N2 million as prize money.”
“The second and third-place teams will get an improved amount of N1.5 million and N1 million respectively; we want to improve the organisation of the tournament yearly. We will broadcast all the games and produce content for the football fans.”
“Our dream is to make the tournament a hub for clubs in Africa to prepare for the new season and we are excited about our growth. We appreciate our sponsor ValueJet Airline for their premium support,” Azeez concluded.
The ValueJet Cup has quickly become a significant event in the Nigerian football calendar, attracting a strong following and increasing enthusiasm from football enthusiasts. This year, the organisers expect an even greater turnout, thanks in part to the remarkable support received from fans in the previous season.
Last year’s champions, Remo Stars, will be defending their title after a remarkable performance in the previous edition. They secured a 3-0 victory against Smart City in the final game.
