Weightlifting: Nigeria Will Surpass 2019 African Games Performance – NWF
The Technical Director of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Christopher Nwadei, said the federation aims to surpass their impressive performance at the 2019 African Games in Morocco, with the 13th edition of the Games set for March 2024 in Ghana.
Nigerian weightlifters won a total of 47 medals at the last edition of the African Games in 2019 in Morocco.
Nwadei said on Tuesday in Abuja that 12 weightlifters would represent the federation in this year African Games in Ghana.
“Nigerian weightlifters won 16 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 18 bronze medals to make a total of 47 medals,” Nwadei said. “Nigeria finished second in the weightlifting medal table.”
According to Nwadei, the lifters would continue to win more medals any time they represent Nigeria.
“Our target is to win more medals and gather enough points that will give us the opportunity to feature in other International tournaments,” he added.
“The lifters will do their best to make the country proud. We have been putting up good performances whenever we go out to represent the country.”
Nwadei said the athletes will resume camp any time to intensify their training ahead of the tournament in Ghana.
The 13th African Games will be held in the cities of Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast from March 8th – 23rd, 2024.
