World Cup Day 11 Preview

On Day 11 of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, Voice of Nigeria previews the upcoming fixtures scheduled to take place on Wednesday, as Africans Tunisia takes on defending champions France while Australia faces Denmark in Group D, with Poland challenging Argentina and Saudi Arabia up against Mexico in the other Group C encounter.

On Day 10, Senegal became the first African team to progress to the knockout stages after a 2-1 victory against Ecuador, while Netherlands who also qualified beat host Nation Qatar 2-0. England also progressed after beating Wales 3-0, with USA claiming a 1-0 win against Iran.

Senegal will now face England in the knockout stages, while England will play the USA.

Tunisia Vs France

The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia will face defending champions France in Group D of the 2022 FIFA World Cup by 4pm (Nigerian Time), at the Education City Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

Tunisia will be looking to end its goal drought as they are yet to score in the competition, to secure a spot in the last 16. The Africans will have to defeat France to stand any chance of progression from the group, while relying on a draw between Australia and Denmark.

If both Tunisia and Denmark win their matches, they will be level on points, and qualification will depend on goal difference.

For France have already progressed from Group D, but would only need a draw to seal top spot. Striker Olivier Giroud would be looking to break Thierry Henry’s record for France with a goal, while star player Kylian Mbappe would seek to continue his fine form in the competition after scoring three (3) goals so far.

If France tops the group, they will face the team that finishes second in Group C, which features Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Poland and Mexico. If Tunisia qualifies in second place, they will play the winners of Group C.

Australia Vs Denmark

Australia will challenge Denmark in the other Group D encounter by 4pm (Nigerian Time), at the Al Janoub Stadium in the city of Al Wakrah ,Qatar

Denmark’s first match saw them draw 0-0 with Tunisia, before losing 2-1 to France in their second game. The Danes will be looking to put up a great performance against Australia to have any chance of progression.

The Socceroos of Australia lost 4-1 to France in their first match, but bounced back in their second fixture to claim a 1-0 victory against Tunisia. Australia will have to put in another spirited performance if they are to progress from the group against a resilient Denmark side.

Denmark need a win to progress, but if Tunisia also win their final game against France it will all come down to goal difference, with both the Danes and the Tunisians level on four points. Australia have an easier path and a win would see them progress to the last 16, but so would a draw if Tunisia lose their match to France.

Poland Vs Argentina

Favourites Argentina will square up against Poland in their Group C encounter by 8pm (Nigerian Time), at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.

Argentina fell to a shock 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia in their first match. In their second fixture, the South Americans beat Mexico 2-1 to record its first win in Qatar 2022.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina now enter the game needing a win to progress against Poland, who currently tops Group C with four (4) points while Argentina have three (3). The South Americans could have their fate dependent on Saudi Arabia, who play Mexico in their final group stage game.

For Poland, they would need only a point against Argentina to progress. The Europeans were held to a 0-0 draw in their first match against Mexico, before claiming a 2-0 victory against Saudi Arabia in their second fixture.

Striker Robert Lewandowski will be looking to get one over Argentina, along with goalkeeper Wojcieh Szczęsny. The Juventus goalkeeper is the only shot-stopper to have kept two clean sheets at Qatar 2022 so far and will seek to make it three when they face Argentina.

Saudi Arabia Vs Mexico

Saudi Arabia will play Mexico in the other Group C encounter by 4pm (Nigerian Time), at the Lusail Stadium in the city of Al Daayen, Qatar.

El Tri of Mexico are yet to score in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they drew 0-0 with Poland in their first match, before losing 2-0 to Argentina in the second fixture. Mexico will need to beat the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia by at least three goals in their final Group C game if they are to guarantee a spot in the last 16.

For Saudi Arabia, they head into this match with three points having recorded a major World Cup upset in their first match after a 2-1 victory against Argentina. Saudi Arabia then lost 2-0 to Poland in their second match.

A win will see Saudi Arabia automatically progress to the last 16. But they can only qualify with a draw if Argentina lose to Poland.
