The call was contained in a statement by Abubakar Argungu, the Head, Public Relations Unit of NOA in Kaduna on behalf of the Agency’s state’s Director, Mr Danjuma Makama. The theme of the years’ celebration is “Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health”.
Makama urged people to avail themselves of the services of any of the nearest 11 equipped and designated medical institutions spread across the country under the Federal government’s kidney dialysis subsidy program when the need arises.
He noted that equipping of the medical institutions which was in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu was a deliberate move by government to discourage medical tourism.
The State Director listed the medical institution to include; FMC Ebute-Metta, FMC Jabi, Abuja, UCH Ibadan, FMC Owerri, FMC Azare, UBTH Edo, UCTH Calabar, FMC Abeokuta, LUTH Lagos, UMTH, Maiduguri and ATBUTH Bauchi.
He highlighted some of the key messages on how to protect the kidneys health to include knowing ones’ risk, getting screened, staying hydrated, eating smart, exercising regularly and limiting the intake of pain killers.
Makama urged Nigerians to prioritize their kidney health by adopting healthy lifestyles, stressing on regular check-ups, and staying hydrated which are crucial in preventing kidney disease.
