Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI, an initiative of the US Department of State, managed by the US Mission in Nigeria is launching a two-weeks campaign for a new Nigeria following the death of it’s member Miss Greatness Olorunfemi.

At a press conference for Multi-stakeholders engagement in pursuit of justice for Greatness Olorunfemi, held in Abuja the Capital city, YALI network Coordinator Abuja, Ms. Moyosoluwa Oladayo said it was advocating for a functional and regularised transportation system where safety is guaranteed.

While calling for proper investigation into the incident that led to the death of Ms Greatness, YALI Network said “technology should be greatly harnessed to get the security work done.”

It said that “government should Increase measures to eradicate one-chance operations and put in strict punishment to be melted out to such criminals when apprehended. Victims should be able to get professional medical treatment and not fear of being used as a medical lab rat or at the worse abandoned because there are not enough hospital facilities to serve patients or negligence as alleged in the case of the late Greatness.”

The Network also said “medical practitioners should daily stay committed to living the medical oaths and declaration sworn which marks an explicit commitment to ethical behaviour and where disciplinary measures are timely and duly melted out to anyone found guilty of keeping the values of this
noble profession to save lives.”

It said; “A proactive security system that citizens can rely on to protect both their lives and property. Where thy treat everyone equal before the law and offenders do not go without being punished. Where there is no ‘normal crime’ ‘one of the regular one-chance case’, ‘usual burgle of cars and theft’
amongst other heinous crimes, we now hear as Normal in our security sector when cases are reported. Where investigations are done timely and thoroughly with utmost level of transparency, accountability and
professionalism. Where victims are not extorted at their most vulnerable
moment.”

YALI network said; “We are compelled to host this press conference as urgent as scheduled due to recent developments of false claims, allegations and publications on the case, which are all subtly tailored towards sabotaging the investigative efforts of YALI Network Abuja, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other constituted agencies in pursuit of Justice for the late Greatness Olorunfemi.”

Also speaking Reverend Dr. Olorunfemi Joseph Olufemi, father of the deceased said “If this insecurity continues unabated, our young people will continue to check out of
the country, as this is already happening and we cannot deny it.”

He said; “My daughter has died, myself and
the entire family have accepted God’s verdict. But demanding and quest for justice as assured by the investigating unit of Nigerian police Abuja is only for the benefits of our dear nation because we don’t know There is no personal bias or witch- hunting, the investigation will help
our government on how to ensure that the society is safe for living and that workers in our hospitals respect the laws and victims of violence, robbery, accident should be treated without condition or
protocols.”

Reverend Olorunfemi appealed to all friends, families, colleagues, the church members and organisations that have been grieved to sue for peace and allow the government to carry
on their investigation accordingly.

The late Miss Greatness Olorunfemi was pushed out of a moving vehicle on Maitama-Kubwa highway by one chance syndicate on September 26, 2023.
