The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sokoto, and Commander Sector 2 North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, has declared open the 2025 Inter-Brigade competition for Corporal and below to enhance sportsmanship and efficiency among soldiers.
During the inauguration at the Giginya Cantonment parade ground in Sokoto State, Major General Ajose said the 5-days competition was aimed at improving junior leadership, organisational ability, and initiatives in the stipulated rank bracket of non-commissioned officers in the division.
He added that the competition would enhance physical fitness, firing skills, encourage esprit-de-corps, inter-unit relationships among the troops, as well as improve the standard of battle readiness.
The GOC was represented by Commander 78 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Moses Ikobah.
He said, “This Philosophy is to consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint multi-agency environment.”
He also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his support, interest, and commitment to ensure officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army train competitively.
He urged the umpire of the competition to be fair to all participants, so that at the end, the best would emerge.
In his welcome remarks, the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abdul Malik Jibia, said that the competition was between the four formations in the division.
Jibia added that the formations are the 8 Division Garrison, 1 Brigade, 58 Signal Brigade, and 48 Engineer Brigade.
He noted that the competition is designed to protect esprit de corps among troops as well as build inter formations and unit relationships.
Brigadier General Jibia said the competition will feature drill combat swimming, map reading, combat run, and obstacle crossing, among others.
The Garrison Commander urged competitors and judges to abide by the stipulated regulations to ensure a hitch-free five-day exercise.
The event featured the opening ceremony, oath taking, parade, and other presentations among others.
