The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has vowed to support and empower leaders of tomorrow in order to achieve a crime and drug-free society.
Soludo stated this during the healthy living club interface with the teachers and his wife at the Governor’s lodge in Amawbia, Awka, the state capital. The Governor affirmed total support for the club and urged the teachers to embrace their duties with diligence.
On her part, Mrs Nonye Soludo urged teacher representatives of the Healthy Living School Club to ensure that every student understands the significance of living a healthy lifestyle. She emphasised that youths need adequate care and support to tow the right path.
The governor’s wife called on the teachers to adequately groom the students with a healthy lifestyle to achieve a drug-free society.
Addressing the teachers, Mrs Soludo reminded them of the brand that they are representing, and what is expected from them, and also commended the teachers for showing commitment to the whole project through their volunteerism.
She urged the teacher ambassadors to ensure that every school child under their tutelage in the clubs understands what it means to live right, in what they eat and how they take care of their body, including prioritising physical exercise, taking care of their environments and staying away from drugs.
The Governor’s wife, while explaining that healthy living has always been her passion, noted that catching the kids young would help them to grab the core message of the campaign and make it a guiding principle in life.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike noted that becoming a member of the organisation comes with a great privilege that must be protected at all times, both in character and example.
He said that setting up the clubs in schools, would awaken the consciousness of members and those they interact with, and help build a brand of right health across the country and the state in particular.
The team leader of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Mr Chigbo Nweke, on his part, reminded the teacher representatives of their responsibilities and praised them for volunteering for the right cause.
With the Governor’s wife having officially inaugurated the club a few weeks ago, the teacher ambassadors have already kicked off activities in each of their schools, with fifty students taken as members from each school in the current phase.
The interaction with the teacher representatives was to educate them on the philosophy of the club and what they are expected to teach the students as part of the club’s activities in schools.
Teacher representatives, familiarly addressed as “Teacher Ambassadors” are heads of the club in schools whose duty is to direct and monitor the affairs of students and also, club members.
The ambassadors are selected from public, private and mission secondary schools across the six education zones of Anambra State.
The National Youth Leader of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Mr Ken Okoli, the Reproductive Health Coordinator, Anambra State, Dr Uju Okoye, among others, were at the event.
