Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N40 million Naira, along with various food items to victims of the recent tanker explosion in Majiya village of Jigawa State.
The donation was presented on Thursday on her behalf by a delegation led by the Wife of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbass at the Government House Dutse.
Handing over the cheque and food items to the Wife of the State Governor, Hadiza Namadi, the First Lady said the plight of the victims is of great concern to her.
She assured the state government of her continued support and prayers.
I’m his remark, the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, assured the delegation that the donation would be judiciously deployed to cater to the victims.
Medical Care
Also appreciating the President for his prompt and fatherly response to the disaster in the state, the Governor disclosed that some of the victims are already getting better under medical care.
While noting that the tanker explosion was a sad episode for the state, the Wife of the Governor, who received the items on behalf of the state government, described the visit and donation by the First Lady as a show of motherly love, unity and solidarity.
The delegation was earlier at the Rasheed Shekoni Federal University Teaching Hospital, Dutse, where some of the victims are currently receiving medical attention.
A tanker transporting petrol from Lagos en route to Yobe State, had a brake failure in Majiya, Jigawa State on Sunday, 13th October, leading to an explosion that killed over 180 people.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the nation’s emergency management agency to assist the state with relief materials, as he also called for the reform of the nation’s road transportation protocols.
