The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria has held a sensitization awareness campaign on third party insurance policy in line with the enforcement which the Nigeria police force commenced since 1st January 2025.

According to the Director of the One Stop Claim Shop, OSCAR unit of the Legal Aid Council, Mr. Nurudeen Ishola, the essence of the sensitization is to let the masses and road users know that they stand to gain a lot when they embrace third party insurance.

“For instance, your (N15,000) Fifteen Thousand Naira which you pay for the policy renewable every year will yield up to 3million naira in the event of an accident. The policy is not working in Nigeria alone, but the entire West Africa region.”

He said that OSCAR will help claim compensation for victims hit by “Hit and Run” drivers, police and mechanic reports, and render legal advice, legal representation, and above all resolve and clear any confusion around the insurance policy of any kind. Be it compensation or 3rd party.”

He noted that the federal government has put in place all the mechanisms to ensure that road users benefit from the insurance policy.

“Nothing like the Nigeria factor again. Legal Aid Council is ready to welcome you and assist you in resolving your problem,” he said.

Mr. Ishola informed the road users that all the Council needs from them are original papers from the insurance companies.

He advised Nigerians to make their report to the police within 48 hours of the accident and report to OSCAR as well within one month.

“We will now commence our work and in less than 90 days your claim will be ready,” he assured.

The participants at the sensitization Programme responded positively.

Recall that Legal Aid Council has a unit called OSCAR which stands for One Stop Claim Shop for victims of motor accident.
