The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) is set to honour distinguished institutions and individuals for their contributions to global peace at its 2026 international conference.
The event is seen as a major platform for diplomacy, intelligence collaboration, and media engagement.
The high-level summit, scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, will centre on the theme: ‘Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.’
The awards ceremony is expected to set the tone for discussions, highlighting the importance of peacebuilding in an increasingly volatile global landscape.
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said the conference goes beyond traditional diplomatic dialogue, addressing the growing threat posed by the manipulation of information in international relations.
He warned that the “weaponisation of information” has become a significant risk to global economic stability.
According to him, the integrity of information remains fundamental to international commerce.
He stressed that Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) undermines investor confidence, disrupts supply chains, and diminishes the value of national assets when left unchecked.
DICAN Chairman described the conference as a call for “collaborative truth” to protect global trade and investment systems.
The summit is expected to attract high-profile participation, including the United States Ambassador, the Chinese Ambassador, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS.
They will join representatives from over 100 diplomatic missions in deliberations aimed at addressing the intersection of information warfare, security, and economic stability.
Participants will include key stakeholders from the intelligence community, trade and investment sectors, and the media, all working to explore strategies for safeguarding global markets amid the rise of hybrid warfare and digital disinformation.
As geopolitical tensions increasingly shift into the digital and information space, the DICAN conference is being viewed as a timely intervention.
By fostering collaboration among diplomacy, intelligence, and media actors, the summit aims to build a more resilient global environment where trade and investment can thrive despite mounting international pressures.
Beyond policy discussions, the recognition of peacebuilders underscores the conference’s broader objective of promoting stability and transparency in global affairs.
Through this initiative, DICAN is positioning Nigeria as a strategic hub for advancing dialogue on security-conscious investment, responsible information sharing and modern diplomacy.
