A Nigerian-founded digital health platform, DoctorOnTap, is expanding its efforts to improve healthcare access across Africa by offering innovative telemedicine services tailored to working professionals.

Co-founder and CEO, Paul Oisamoje, said in an interview with Voice of Nigeria that the idea was born out of a personal experience with delayed diagnosis of a serious illness, which highlighted the need for faster and more efficient healthcare delivery.

Launched in December 2025 and registered in Nigeria, the United States, and Rwanda, DoctorOnTap offers virtual doctor consultations, second-opinion services, vetted caregiver placement, and coordination of international medical treatment.

According to the co-founder, “the platform is designed to address the needs of busy professionals who often face challenges accessing timely healthcare due to demanding schedules.”

He explained that “the working population remains a critical segment of the economy, yet many are unable to prioritise their health due to demanding work schedules.”

“Our platform is designed to ensure that individuals do not have to choose between their professional responsibilities and their wellbeing,” he added.

The concept was further shaped by his professional background in healthcare financing, where systemic challenges in access to quality care became increasingly evident.

To broaden access and inclusivity, the company is exploring integration with widely used messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, enabling users- particularly in rural and underserved communities- to connect with healthcare providers more easily.

In line with its expansion strategy, Paul said that DoctorOnTap has secured a provisional operational licence from Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, marking a significant step in its cross-border growth and aim to deepen its footprint across the African continent.

“Our vision extends beyond national boundaries. We are focused on serving Africans both on the continent and in the diaspora, ensuring access to quality healthcare regardless of location,” he affirmed.

The company’s expansion aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 and SDG 9, by promoting access to affordable healthcare and demonstrating how digital infrastructure can complement and, in some cases, substitute for physical healthcare facilities at scale.

Amid a growing telemedicine sector in Nigeria, the platform offers comprehensive healthcare solutions. Rather than functioning solely as a consultation service, DoctorOnTap aims to evolve into an integrated digital healthcare ecosystem within Nigeria and the diaspora.

“We are building a system that goes beyond virtual consultations. Our goal is to create a ‘hospital without walls’- a fully integrated platform where users can access a range of healthcare services seamlessly,” Paul reiterated.

With the platform’s structure including clinical services led by Dr. Habibah Abare, and pharmaceutical services co-founded by Omo Kabwa, stakeholders noted that such innovations could play a critical role in strengthening healthcare delivery systems and improve health outcomes across Africa.
