The National President of NAWOJ, Aisha Bura shortly after inaugurating the committee in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital said that the act became necessary as a result of accusations and disputes held between the two contesting factions on Saturday.
“We constituted this committee following the stalemate in the last election which was supposed to hold on Saturday. It became necessary for us to have halted that election, because of the aggressions, accusations and counter accusations of the two contesting factions”.
Bura made it clear that there was no way the National body would have allowed the election take place in such a tense atmosphere.

“The mandate of this committee is primarily to oversee to the activities of FCT NAWOJ. We are yet decide whether we are going to start the process all over again or continue from where they stop. whatever the case, what they have done so far, they will hand it over to the committee. You will look at it and then continue from there,” she said.
Advising the committee to be fair in their dealings, Bura said that “Understand! that you were chosen or nominated based on certain parameters, integrity, your commitment to the association, and above all, that at least there’s some degree of the fear of God, and that is what we should instill while carrying out our responsibilities. “
She urged the committee to play by the rules and stick to the Constitution of the NUJ.
“Let us make sure that we are fair to each interested parties. We should not at all in any way disenfranchise anybody who has interest to contest. We should stick by the provisions of the Constitution of the NUJ because for now, this is what we use.”
