The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced a review of its constitution as part of efforts to reposition and strengthen the party’s structure.

Inaugurating the Constitution Review Committee in Abuja, the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, described the exercise as a significant milestone in the party’s continuous growth and institutional development.

He urged members of the committee whom he said were carefully selected to approach the assignment with open minds, wide consultations, and a firm commitment to the collective interest of the party.

Senator Mark explained that the review was timely, given the party’s expanding reach and responsibilities, and is aimed at aligning the constitution with present realities, future challenges, and global best practices.

“This exercise is not about changing principles, but strengthening them,” he said, stressing the need for clarity, fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability. According to him, these elements are essential to promoting unity, resolving disputes fairly, and positioning the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership.

Chairman of the ADC Constitution Review Committee, Etigwe Uwa, pledged to deliver a strengthened constitution that reflects the aspirations of party members.

He said the review would address issues of internal democracy, accountability, transparency, and efficient party administration.

According to Uwa, the committee would consider proposals that reflect the expectations of fair-minded Nigerians and enhance the party’s appeal, including examining the structure of party officials at the grassroots level to improve mobilisation and penetration.

The committee is expected to submit an interim report and proposed amendments to the National Working Committee within 30 days.
