Fertilizer Firm Educates Farmers On Best Application Techniques

Al-Yuma Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited manufacturers of Nagari Fertilizer brand has organized a one-day sensitization session for smallholder Nigerian farmers on fertilizer application, usage and best management to address the issue of the current hike in fertilizer price.

Speaking to the participants during the sensitization session held at the company’s premises situated at Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State, its chairman Alhaji Aliyu Yusuf stated that the current hike in fertilizer price was a global phenomenon that requires farmer’s proper understanding of best fertilizer application techniques to effectively manage the situation.

According to him, the sensitization for smallholder farmers has become necessary to avert unnecessary wastage of fertilizer which he said may have a negative multiplier effect on the farmers which may result in farming at a loss.

While presenting a paper on best fertilizer application techniques, Professor Isyaku Amupu of the Agricultural Research Centre Samaru, stated that it is better for the farmers to understand the predicament they faced in good time as well as to understand the best measure to adopt in addressing the issue of the high cost of fertilizer which he said is threatening this year’s wet-season farming activities.

Similarly, in his goodwill message, director of the federal ministry of Agriculture and Rural development, Alhaji Abba Gana, revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria revealed that measures are being put in place to checkmate the high cost of fertilizer in the nation as farmers, adding that the unfortunate high cost of fertilizer would soon be addressed.
