First Lady Mourns Army Chief, visits deceased’s family

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Oluremi Tinubu has expressed deep condolences over the death of former Chief of Army Staff, LeiutenantTaoreed Lagbaja, who died on Tuesday night in Lagos.

In a message she issued on Wednesday, the First Lady extolled the sterling qualities of the late Chief of Army Staff.

She said: “It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the demise of the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja.

“Throughout his career, the late Chief of Army Staff exemplified valor, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to the service of our dear country. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Mrs. Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, children, family, friends, colleagues, and associates.

“May Almighty God comfort and grant them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu also paid a condolence visit to the family of the Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The First Lady who was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and the wife of the National Security Adviser, Hajia Zara Ribadu, were received by the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Musa.

While comforting the wife of the deceased Mrs. Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja and the children, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu noted that “only the Lord can determine when a man dies.”

She urged them to be comforted by the good life and legacies he left behind.

The First Lady urged the children to remain focused and pursue the ideals their father lived for.

The Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja died on Tuesday, November 5, after a period of illness at the age of 56 years.

The late General Lagbaja served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from June 2023 to November 5, 2024.
