Former President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.) has paid a heartfelt tribute to his friend and fellow soldier, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away.

In a moving tribute, Babangida described Buhari as a “brother, friend, and patriot” who embodied the values of service, discipline, and love for country.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of my friend, brother, and fellow soldier, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

Our paths crossed in 1962 at the Nigerian Military Training College in Kaduna, where Muhammadu stood out as quiet yet resolute, principled yet humble, and deeply patriotic.

Throughout the years, we shared experiences, trials, and victories, forging a bond built on service, discipline, and love for country.

As leaders, Buhari consistently demonstrated integrity, order, and dignity in public office, serving Nigeria with responsibility and commitment.

Beyond his public life, I knew him as a spiritual man who carried himself with humility. Despite differences, I never doubted his sincerity or patriotism.

His passing is a loss not just of a former Head of State but of a symbol of Nigeria’s transition and a moral compass.

To his family and the nation, I extend my deepest condolences. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May his legacy endure.”
