The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye says the early arrival of materials for the Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state is a marked improvement over the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Ijalaye was speaking with journalists on Saturday when he inspected the conduct of the exercise at the Polling Unit 14, Ward 1, Ikenne LGA, Ogun State.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, had voted at the polling Unit 14, Ward 1, Ikenne LGA, Ogun State.

He said; “It’s a totally different scenario today. As we speak, most of our presiding officers have been at their desk since 8am, waiting for voters to come in. So, this is a great improvement over the last election.”

Ijalaye said he visited many parts of Ogun State to monitor the election and expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the exercise.

He said; “I have been going round most local governments in the state since morning. I’ve been to Ota, Iffo, Ewekoro, Abeokuta South, Obafemi Owode before I came here.

“ Initially, in the early hours of the morning I inspected the RACs (Registration Area Centres) and I realized that men and materials were being moved to the polling units.

“And as I was moving round, I realized that voting had commenced and I was stopping to see the performance of BVAS and other materials. The response has been very commendable.”

On the security situation in the state, the Resident Electoral Commissioner commended the police and other security agencies, stating that they have been most cooperative.

Ijalaye also spoke on the turnout of voters, saying that he saw a lot of people coming to vote at the polling units that he visited.
