The Niger State government has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently address the deplorable condition of federal roads across the state.
This follows a stakeholders’ meeting held in Minna with the Minister of Works and a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Works led by the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdulbaqy Usman Ebbo, highlighted the immense burden the situation places on the Niger State Government during an exclusive interview in Minna.

He emphasised that Governor Bago cannot tackle all the infrastructure challenges alone, especially given the numerous ongoing projects in the state.
Usman Ebbo pointed to critical federal roads within Niger State, including the Suleja-Minna Road, awarded 14 years ago, the Kontagora-Rijau Road, awarded over a decade ago, and the Baro Road project. He lamented that despite repeated assurances, these roads remain incomplete.
He further expressed concern over the lack of resources needed to repair these roads, noting that the state government is already struggling to improve healthcare, education, and agriculture while launching a massive agricultural revolution.
Ebbo called on the Federal Government to prioritise Niger State, describing it as a strategic hub for Nigeria’s development.
“The situation is even more alarming because Niger State is at the center of Nigeria. If our roads were to be shut down, the economy of the entire country would suffer,” he warned.
Abdulbaqy Usman Ebbo appealed to the Federal Government to strengthen its presence in the state to alleviate the challenges faced by the people and to harness the state’s untapped economic potential.
He also urged members of the state and national assemblies to step up efforts to bring Niger State’s needs to attention.
