Over one thousand persons living with different ailments have, in Achina, and the surrounding communities in Anambra State, received free medical treatment from the Lift A Widow Initiative.

The two day medical outreach held at Amaiyi Health Center, Achina in Aguata Local government area, was an annual programme of the organisation that started in 2009. The beneficiaries of the free medical outreach included widows, youths, children and the elderly.

The free medical services provided to them include blood pressure check, eye test, sugar level test, malaria, among others.

According to one of the organisers of the programme, Dr. Beatrice Ezenwa, they engaged different healthcare professionals, consultants and specialists in different areas in medicine who examined the patients, while their pharmacists gave them the prescribed drugs for their ailments free of cost.

Dr. Ezenwa went further to say that patients who have minor eye problems were treated and given eye glasses while those with major cases that required surgery were referred to hospitals where they could be taken care of.

The President of Lift A Widow Initiatives, Barrister Chinwe Ezenwa-Mba who regretted that many people died due to inability to afford to payment for their medical treatments explained that the free medical outreach was aimed at giving the less privileged access to quality medical care.

She, however, called on the beneficiaries to always take their health issues seriously by going for regular medical check-up and treatments regularly.

While appreciating the organisation for bringing healthcare to the doorsteps of indigenes of Achina, the Medical Director of Amaiyi Hospital, Dr. Ikenna Erondu noted that the exercise has helped the less privileged in the area who find it difficult to access proper healthcare and urged other non governmental organisations to emulate them.

The beneficiaries appreciated the organisation for their benevolence and for making it a point of duty to promote wellness in Anambra State.
