Polio immunisation: Edo LG boss takes campaign to residents

The Chairman, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Benedicta Attoh, has taken polio immunisation campaign to residents of the state, urging them to make their children available to health workers.

Attoh also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, organisations, religious bodies, individuals, and families to join in mobilising mothers and caregivers to join the campaign.

She said the immunization, which began on Friday, is meant to boost Governor Godwin Obaseki commitment in ensuring Edo children are safe and healthy.

She stated: “Polio as a preventable disease through vaccination, noting that immunization is the best protection against polio and is recommended for all infants, and children to protect them from the harmful effects of polio.

“I am calling for stakeholders to support the local government health workers by ensuring compliance and help to create mass awareness for the immunization campaign that will take place till Tuesday next week while Wednesday and Thursday will be used for mop up.

“Any community that the health workers are yet to visit on Monday should raise an alarm so that they (the health workers) can go there. Polio vaccination is the right of every child and it is free,” she added.

The State facilitator of the programme, Catherine Darpokpo, assured that the government is committed in ensuring that Edo State is polio-free.
