President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined the government and people of Plateau State in mourning Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.
In a condolence statement signed by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, military colleagues, and political associates of the former Governor of old Bendel State, Minister of Transport, and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army.
President Tinubu said Useni demonstrated courage and dedication throughout his military career and inspired many young officers to prioritise national interests above personal gain.
The President stated that the late Useni also made some difference in politics as deputy national chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District.
President Tinubu prays that God Almighty will grant Lieutenant-General Useni’s soul eternal rest and solace for his family.
Jeremiah Timbut Useni was born on 16 February 1943.
He was a Nigerian army lieutenant general, who served as minister responsible for the administration of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja under the Sani Abacha military era.
He served Nigeria in various capacities such as Minister for Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigeria Army. Useni also served as Deputy Chairman of one of the significant parties in Nigeria, the All Nigeria Peoples Party.
He was elected Senator for the Plateau South constituency of Plateau State, Nigeria in the March 2015 national elections.
