A member of Nigeria’s House of Representative, Mr. Oluwole Oke has charged Nigerian youths to propel Nigeria to greatness after overcoming covid-19 pandemic which he says built “resilience, focus and determination” especially among the youths.
Hon. Oke gave the charge at the graduation of high school students of Lead British International School in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
He said generations that survive pandemics and epidemics have through history, being the generation that has made more impact in advancing the course of humanity.
Drawing analogy from the Spanish flu of the 1930’s that resulted in the death of over one million people, he said: “The generation that lived through the Spanish Flu was the same generation that lived through World War I, World War II and the Great Depression…however, that generation, arose to fight for its survival and prosperity. They worked hard, smart and skillfully. Thankfully, it was the same generation that landed the first man in the moon, invented the jet engine, television, computer, nuclear power, et cetera.
“We are counting on your generation to lead the charge in solving the problems that confronts our world and our nation today. We are counting on you all to solve the problem of poverty, to provide the right type of leadership, to transform our economy and industrialize it and birth a new and great Nigeria.” he added.
Also at the event, ace broadcaster Dr. Eugenia Abu, asked the graduands to be wary of the information about themselves they put out on social media and how they use social media.
She said some people will do anything for followership and likes, not minding whose lives they put at risk so “be careful who you meet online,” she advised.
