A Catholic clergyman and professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State, Reverend Father Professor Bonaventure Uchenna Umeogu, has called on politicians in the country to remember and fulfil their vows made during campaigns and assist the needy and disabled citizens.
Father Umeogu made the appeal at the Communion Ground, Umunya, in Oyi local government area of Anambra State during his book and album launch/birthday celebration.
He reminded politicians that Nigerians, especially the masses are waiting for the good infrastructures and positive and favourable economic turnaround which they promised.

Speaking further, Rev. Fr. Umeogu who was formerly Dean, Faculty of Arts, UNIZIK, beckoned on Nigerian leaders at various levels to collectively ascertain ways of alleviating the sufferings of the citizens whom, he said, are currently going through a lot as a result of the recent removal of fuel subsidy by President Tinubu

For his part, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Don Onyenji, appreciated Father Umeogu for the books he wrote, the great assistance he has been rendering to the less privileged, the disabled, especially the blind most of whom are still undergraduates.
He called on Nigerians to always support the clergy in their evangelical missions.

Speaking on the books’ presentation titled “The Dean Speaks” and “The Symbolismic Universe, the Kolanut In Igbo Metaphysics”, Umeogu, who is the foundation director of Igbo Village and Centre for African Civilization (IVACAC), UNIZIK, equally urged Igbo citizens to sustain their rich Kolanut tradition.

“The kola nut is a multi-valential symbol of Igbo thought and culture and correctly depicts the multidimensional individuality and personality of the communalistic homo symbolicus: Onye Igbo ( Igbo person),” he pointed out.

Some priests and religious persons who spoke during the event called on Nigerians to always hearken to the the needs of one another and grow by lifting others.
“One can never be too generous in giving to God. But while giving to God, do not forget that he does not really need your gift if you have not first offered it to your brothers and sisters in difficulty.
“Yes, do not adorn the altar in the temple with gold when you leave Christ naked in the street,” said Father Umeogu.
While praying for peace, security and unity of the country, he urged the less privileged and the disabled never to lose hope but always trust in God.

The event climaxed with the presentation of gifts to the less privileged and cutting of the birthday cake.
