The Nigerian Army has intensified its outreach in Anambra State, to boost youth participation in its ongoing 91st Regular Recruits Intake amid concerns over persistently low enlistment figures from South-East.

Speaking at a sensitisation programme in Awka, leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Uche Nnabuihe, said the initiative seeks to address what he described as the region’s underrepresentation in the military.

He disclosed that as of April 7, only 117 applications had been received from Anambra out of 38,000 nationwide submissions since the recruitment portal opened.

“This exercise is designed to bridge the gap and encourage more young people from Anambra and the wider South-East to take advantage of the opportunity,” Nnabuihe said.

He added that applications for both trades and non-trades recruits would close on May 17, 2026.

A delegate at the event,  Lieutenant Colonel Ogbemudia Osawe, highlighted improvements in military training infrastructure, including new institutions in Abakaliki and Osogbo.

He outlined the benefits of service in the Nigerian Army, including career progression, structured pay and allowances, access to continuous education, healthcare coverage for personnel and their families, pension entitlements, and opportunities for international deployment.
