Nigeria Congratulates Togo On 66th Independence Anniversary

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended warm congratulations to the government and people of Togo on the occasion of their 66th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria joined the people of Togo in commemorating the historic milestone, marking sixty-six years of sovereignty, national identity, and steady progress since the country gained independence on April 27, 1960.

“This anniversary not only celebrates Togo’s liberation from colonial rule but also provides a moment for reflection on its journey towards political consolidation, socio-economic transformation, and institutional development.”

Over the decades, Togo has demonstrated resilience and commitment to nation-building through efforts aimed at strengthening democratic governance, enhancing public institutions, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

“Nigeria recognises the strides made by Togo in infrastructure development, regional trade facilitation, and reforms geared towards improving the business environment, which have contributed to its growing role within the West African sub-region.”

On participation in the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, “Togo’s contributions to regional integration, conflict prevention, and diplomatic dialogue continue to reinforce collective efforts aimed at sustaining peace and fostering economic cooperation across West Africa.”

The Nigerian government underscores the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Togo, which are rooted in shared history, geographic proximity, cultural ties, and mutual respect.

“Both countries have continued to collaborate within bilateral and multilateral frameworks to address common challenges, including security concerns in the sub-region, economic diversification, and sustainable development.”

Nigeria reiterates its commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Togo in key areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, energy cooperation, youth empowerment, and cultural exchange.

The Nigerian Foreign Affairs Ministry expresses confidence that the partnership between both countries will continue to deepen in line with the aspirations of their respective peoples and the broader objectives of regional integration.
