Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the Palestinian question, with emphasis on peace, coexistence and a two-state solution.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made this known while receiving the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, Muhannad Alhammouri, during a courtesy visit to her office.

Discussions at the meeting focused on pathways to lasting peace, with Odumegwu-Ojukwu reaffirming Nigeria’s longstanding position that a two-state solution remains the most viable approach to addressing the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

She stressed that Nigeria would continue to support the independence of the State of Palestine, describing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination as non-negotiable.

The Minister further expressed concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region, particularly its devastating impact on vulnerable populations, including women and children.

She noted that Nigeria, alongside the international community, remains “deeply invested in finding a sustainable resolution to the conflict.”

In his remarks, Ambassador Muhannad Alhammouri appreciated the Minister for the warm reception and Nigeria’s consistent support for Palestine.

He highlighted the scale of the humanitarian situation, stating that “more than two million people have been displaced in Gaza.”

Despite the challenges, he emphasised Palestine’s desire to coexist peacefully with Israel.

The meeting underscored Nigeria’s continued diplomatic engagement and advocacy for peace, stability and justice in the Middle East.
