Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra State Chapter, successfully hosted a one-day enlightenment retreat and seminar aimed at enhancing organisational efficiency.
The event, which took place in Awka, the state capital, brought together elected executives from the local government to state levels, including leaders of the women and youth wings.
Themed “Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a Mechanism to Galvanize and Uphold the Core Values of the Igbo Race/Nation with Special Reference to Anambra State,” the retreat focused on informing the newly elected executives about their responsibilities and the mandate of the organization.
State President Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu emphasised that the program was designed to foster a deeper understanding of organisational expectations, urging members to remain vigilant and committed to their roles.
“Under my leadership, Ohanaeze is dedicated to activating its organs for enhanced performance, particularly at the community level,” Okpalaezeukwu stated.
He expressed confidence that the retreat would result in tangible improvements within the organization.
As the November 8 governorship election approaches, Okpalaezeukwu issued a caution against partisan politics, reiterating the organisations non-partisan stance.
“We urge our executives not to align with any political party. Instead, we must promote Igbo interests and evaluate candidates based on their manifestos and commitment to serving the Igbo community,” he asserted.
He further emphasised the importance of mobilising communities to participate actively in the electoral process to combat voter apathy and ensure a stable environment for elections.
Keynote speaker Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, former National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urged the leadership to elevate the organisation’s status as the recognised voice of the Igbo nation.
He called for unity, advising the officials to avoid divisive statements and to resolve internal conflicts amicably.
Additionally, immediate past State President Chief Chukwuemekalum Udodeme suggested strengthening Ohanaeze at the local government level and respecting the current administration, aligning with the organization’s policy.
Former Chairman of the State Association of Town Unions, Titus Akpudo also emphasised the need for unity, calling on members to rally around the newly elected leadership.
The retreat facilitated an interactive platform for the leaders, allowing them to pose questions and seek clarifications on their roles within the organisation.
The collaborative spirit fostered during the event is expected to further cement the strength and effectiveness of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Anambra State.
