Security agencies in Nasarawa State have issued a stern warning to all political actors to maintain peace or face the full weight of the law ahead of the upcoming primary elections across the country.
The warning was issued by the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, during a press briefing at the Police Command Headquarters, Lafia, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of all security agencies in the state, CP Mohammed said the era of sponsoring violence is over.
He emphasised that while elections are the cornerstone of democracy, they cannot be held at the expense of human life.
The security chief noted that as party primaries approach, the agencies have observed an uptick in political manoeuvring that requires a firm, unified response.
“Political ambition must never outweigh the sanctity of human life or the stability of our communities.
“Security agencies in Nasarawa State will not tolerate any form of politically motivated violence,” he noted.
The Commissioner further warned that the status or political affiliation of offenders would provide no shield from prosecution.
He specifically cautioned the sponsoring of violence, those funding thuggery or disruptions, individuals using hate speech or campaigns of calumny to inflame public sentiment, and parties failing to obtain necessary approvals for rallies.
CP Mohammed urged the youth to reject roles as instruments of violence, reminding them that their future is worth more than the temporary gains offered by unscrupulous individuals.
The commissioner, however, reassured the public that security forces remain united, vigilant, and fully prepared.
He promised a level playing ground for all parties but reiterated that this fairness depends on mutual respect for the rule of law.
