The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding aimed at eliminating drink-driving and promoting responsible alcohol consumption among motorists in Nigeria.

The agreement was signed at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and the Chairman of the Beer Sectoral Group, Thibaut Boidin.

Describing the initiative, the FRSC said it represents a firm commitment to tackling one of the most preventable causes of road crashes in the country.

“This is not ceremonial. It is a deliberate, joint offensive against the single most preventable cause of road carnage in Nigeria,” the Corps stated.

He noted that the partnership combines enforcement capacity with industry influence to improve road safety and protect all road users.

Under the agreement, both parties will intensify nationwide campaigns, strengthen public enlightenment, and implement targeted interventions against drink-driving.

While the FRSC provides regulatory authority and enforcement capacity, the Beer Sectoral Group contributes industry reach, resources and advocacy support to promote responsible alcohol consumption.

The partnership also seeks to challenge the perception that alcohol consumption is compatible with driving.

For the next five years, the initiative will be measured by its impact on reducing fatalities and improving road safety outcomes across Nigeria.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior executives, including the Chief Executive Officers of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Girish Sharma, and International Breweries Plc, Nicholas Kade, as well as BSG Executive Director Abiola Lasehinde and senior FRSC officials.

The Beer Sectoral Group is an advocate of beverage alcohol intake among adults, and on the mission to develop the beer industry by encouraging sound professional practice.
